These past few weeks of warm weather have given us a taste of Spring and Summer, coaxing many of us to peek out of our cave-like habitats, throw open our curtains and let those beautiful golden rays of warmth bring an end to Winter hibernation.

It  has been so nice outside lately, that a walk around our Legacy Farms venue was too enticing to resist! It brought thoughts of the endless outdoor activities that warm weather brings and had us dreaming of glorious outdoor weddings and events to come. The beauty of the rolling acreage, grandeur of the manor house, and the glistening water-scape creates the picture perfect setting for outdoor soirees.

Back at the office with Legacy Farms fresh on my mind, I decided to research unique and fun outdoor wedding trends and found several great ways to add a bit of fun and whimsy to your event with outdoor games!

  wedding-cornhole

You’ll fall in love with this amazing Wedding Cornhole game adorned with the charming sillohuets of the Bride and Groom along with brightly colored bags. This game will really break the ice with your guests and have everyone out of their seats, mingling, and enjoying themselves in no time!

I don’t know if it is the warm weather, the smell of freshly cut grass, the sound of crickets chirping, or the soft repetitive glow of the lightening bug, but outdoor events are just so relaxing and fun; a time where people can really let go and celebrate!

croquet

A formal event or wedding reception, doesn’t have to consist of the same old traditional dinner and dancing; shake it up a bit, allow your guests to let their hair down, stretch their legs, and enjoy the warm weather!

First of all, I would like to thank pinterest for the majority of my inspiration photos for this post!  One of the biggest trends in weddings/ event decor is burlap.

I don’t think there is a better way to incorporate Southern Charm or to evoke that charming rustic feel than the use of burlap. Plus, it is also very inexpensive while at the same time adds elegance to your soiree. We’ve put together a list of our favorite ways to decorate with this lovely fabric.

1. Linens

The International Catering Association has just nominated our own A Catered Affair for Best Hors d’oeuvre – 2012! Our Chef and Sous- Chef were nominated for their French Quarter Shrimp and Grits Appetizer. Take a minute to drool over the description and vibrant pictures of this delicious appetizer.

The most amazing thing about this appetizer is the amount of flavor in one portable bite. All of the favors of this southern favorite; creamy, spicy, and savory in one tiny morsel leaving your mouth wanting more!

shrimp-pile

This wonderful creation came about when our Sous-Chef wanted to make the traditional shrimp and grits dish more accessible and convenient for guests to eat with no more spilled grits or sauce on suits and dresses.

After playing around with several different ideas, he came up with the winning combination, a “bowl” of grits made by pressing grits into a mini muffin pan, letting them set and firm, then scooping out a small reservoir for the shrimp and creole sauce with a small melon baller. The now grits cups were then baked to a golden crisp and were ready for our Executive Chef’s own creole sauce made with fresh tomatoes and a deep brown roux topped with a beautiful pink Shrimp!

When choosing a groom’s cake design, it can be a little tricky to find the cake that so perfectly captures the style and personality of your guy. Generally, the couple chooses designs based on a Groom’s interests, hobbies, clubs, favorite tv shows/movies, or sports team.

We love to show off our Groom’s cakes here at The Bake Shoppe, but there are so many awesomely unique cakes for guys that we had to split them up into categories to post! One of the most popular of these genres is sports themed cakes.

Baseball cakes are so fun and there are so many custom fondant pieces that can be added to make each cake unique. Aside from team logos, custom pieces could be anything from replicas of favorite baseball hats to vintage baseball mits, pitcher’s mounds, and more!

It is very popular for couple to ask for chocolate covered strawberries on their cake and most of the time, they adorn the Groom’s cake. We like to make them extra special and match the theme of the cakes if we can which is why we love these chocolate covered strawberries with little white chocolate football laces on  them.

This happens to be one of our favorite Groom’s cakes in The Bake Shoppe’s history! The couple sent photos of the Groom’s actual golf bag for us to replicate all of the details right down to his monogrammed golf towel.

Trying  to incorporate a very feminine look to these cakes, our decorators too inspiration from dresses and accessories through the edible pearls, ruffles, appliques, and lace with the addition of delicate handmade sugar flowers.

Shabby chic usually has a traditional white and ivory color pallate, however, we couldn’t resist add a few pops of color here and there to add a bit of an eye catching easthetic to the design details.

Believe it or not, we have already seen quite a few Brides planning their fall 2012 Wedding. With respect to that, we thought it was appropriate to share one of our favorite fall weddings at Legacy Farms, Karen McNamara and Brad Frye with photography  by Scoobie’s Photographic Images.

The covered pavillion in the courtyard is such a great spot for an outdoor ceremony. There are so many ways to customize this space as well! We have seen it transformed with such things as hanging lanterns from the rafters or stained glass window panels hung on the sides of the pavillion to combine the feel of a traditional church wedding with the great outdoors.

Karen and Brad’s Reception took place in the event center at Legacy Farms complete with dinner from A Catered Affair, dancing to tunes from JD’s Music, and cake from The Bake Shoppe.

The “See Rock City”  sign on the property is one of our many favorite photo spots on the property. It provides such a unique backdrop for bridal party shots!

We’d like to offer a big Congrats  and Thank You to newlyweds Karen and Brad for allowing us to be a part of their special day and share it with others! Hope their special day could be an inspiration to all those planning a fall 2012 wedding!
