We are so pleased to have represented The Bake Shoppe with one of our cakes featured in this amazing “Gone With the Wind meets Coco Chanel” inspired photo shoot at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens. It was so much fun being a part of all of the glamour and creating a cake to fit such a luxurious theme!
We love having such a beautifully bold inspiration photo to design a cake around such as the “Vivienne”, a french-inspired bridal gown that was created by Karen Hendrix Couture and displayed at the recent New York Bridal Fashion Week.
Be sure to check out all of the pictures from the photoshoot HERE. For more information on The Bake Shoppe or to set up a cake tasting/ consultation, please contact us by phone (615)321-2394 or email Amy@maineventpro.com.

For those of you who couldn’t make it to the bridal shows this season, we thought we would share some pictures of our 2012 Bridal Show cakes.
We went with a vintage shabby chic theme this year and really feel like we have caputured the essence of the trend in these cakes. Hope you enjoy!
Trying to incorporate a very feminine look to these cakes, our decorators too inspiration from dresses and accessories through the edible pearls, ruffles, appliques, and lace with the addition of delicate handmade sugar flowers.
Shabby chic usually has a traditional white and ivory color pallate, however, we couldn’t resist add a few pops of color here and there to add a bit of an eye catching easthetic to the design details.

I decided to take a little walk on the web and find ideas that could easily be incorporated into any wedding reception décor.

Vases of varying sizes, shapes, and materials can be unified with mere paper bags to serve as fresh, bright centerpieces at a casual wedding. Slip the plain white lunch bags over the containers and cinch the tops loosely with ribbons tied in bows. www.marthastewartweddings.com

This guest signature picture frame mat is a fabulous and unique alternative to a traditional paper and cardboard guest book, allowing guests to engrave their own names and well wishes into the frame to create a lasting and personalized keepsake to forever remember the special occasion. www.idoengravables.com

Here’s the perfect solution for your table number/name cards! What a beautiful way to light up your reception tables and also illuminate the way for your guests to find their tables. www.momentsofelegance.com

Introducing our Wedding Checklist Series! We are excited to offer these tips (and more to come over the next few weeks) to assist you in planning your perfect wedding. Today’s topic:
Selecting Your Venue
The answer is “Yes!” and now you both are looking forward to your big day. Once you have established your wedding date, budget and the number of wedding guests, it’s time to select your venue.
Here are some important questions to ask potential venues as you search for the perfect fit!
- Is the venue available on your wedding date? Seems obvious but it will save you time to establish this when first contacting a potential venue.

Venue: Events @ 1418
- How many people can they accommodate? If the venue is too small, your guests will feel cramped. Ask for the range of an ideal guest count for their space.
- Does the venue offer catering? If the venue does not have an in-house catering service, ask for a list of preferred caterers.
- Does the facility rental include tables, chairs and linens? Do they have vendors they can recommend for what is not provided?
- What is the liquor policy for the venue? Not all venues will allow you to bring your own adult beverages so it is best to know from the beginning. There are also liability issues when alcohol is served so ask the venue if you should purchase additional insurance.
- In additional to the facility rental fee, are there other fees to consider? Is tax and gratuity included?
- Is the venue conveniently located? Many of your wedding guests will come from out of town, so you may want a venue that is easy to find.
- Are there any other weddings on the same day? If there are, this can save you money or it can be an unwanted distraction from your big day. Make sure you understand the timeline from arrival time to expected to departure time.
- Can you get ready at the venue? Many venues will ask that you come hair and makeup ready. Is there a separate space for the bride and her entourage and the groom and his buddies? Is there an extra charge to use these spaces?

Tips for making the selection of a venue a good experience:
- Bring a camera to record the details so that you can reference them later if needed.
- Take notes of everything. There is no such thing as a stupid question so ask away.
- Don’t be forced into making a hasty decision. Give yourselves time to digest what you have learned. A good venue prefers that you are completely comfortable with your choice before booking.
Since today is Social Media Day, I thought we would discuss social media at weddings. Oh, I know what you are thinking! Why can’t people just leave their Blackberries and Facebook accounts alone during such a special moment?
Social media is about sharing and who doesn’t want to share special moments?
Some ideas for utilizing social media for weddings:
- Make a video and post on You Tube. Film the groom-to-be proposing and share it with family and friends. Let the entire world view your wedding announcement.
- Post your “save-the-date” announcement on Facebook. If this is not something you want to share with everyone on Facebook, adjust your privacy settings and make it available only to those you choose.
- Create a Twitter hashtag for your wedding. Encourage your guests to post from the ceremony so that those who cannot attend can feel like they are in on the action.
- A Twitter wall (I like twitterfountain.com) can be created for the reception whereby guests can post good luck wishes to the bride and groom.
A word of caution – don’t forget your basic manners. These social media ideas are meant to enhance, not take the place of traditional invitations and handwritten thank-you notes.
What is the most creative use of social media you have seen being used in conjunction with a wedding?

Attend any bridal show or sit in on any cake consultation and you will hear a 5 minute (or longer) debate over the fondant vs buttercream for the wedding cake. Here’s just a glance of a few questions from previous brides….
- how does fondant taste? I heard it tastes awful!
- what if I want the look of fondant but without actually using fondant?
- can you make the buttercream have the same smooth look as fondant?
- I’m having an outside wedding in the middle of August, which will hold up better? fondant or buttercream?
- what’s in between the cake and the fondant?
These are just a few examples of what brides are asking when it comes to how they want their cake iced.
I think it’s safe to say that Main Event Productions and The Bake Shoppe has some experience under our cake-lovin’ belt and can offer some advice and guidance to hopefully direct you in your decision making.
- how does fondant taste? I heard it tastes awful! Fondant has a very sweet and chewy taste. Our chocolate fondant reminds me of a giant tootsie roll! It does come down to personal preference.
- what if I want the look of fondant but without actually using fondant? We are really good at what we do and can make a buttercream cake as smooth as fondant.
- can you make the buttercream have the same smooth look as fondant? yes and yes!!!
- I’m having an outside wedding in the middle of August, which will hold up better? fondant or buttercream? It has been our experience that fondant holds up better in the middle TN heat. It’s proven to be more sturdy, reliable, and resilient to catching any bugs that mights be hungry for some delicious cake.
- what’s in between the cake and the fondant? When we cover a cake in fondant we place a nice layer of buttercream icing on the cake before the fondant in order to hold in the cake’s moisture and to taste yummy for those who’d rather peel off the fondant.
