The DIY Bride… English Tea

This year the Royal Wedding brought lavish English tradition into the spotlight, sparring a new trend in wedding themes. We are always looking for inspiration at Main Event Productions, and thought we’d share a few ideas with couples who want a little something of the English tea sentiment at their reception.

A few chandeliers over the head table could really evoke the feeling of royalty.

Even better, when positioned just right over a hot beverage bar, this DIY statement piece can also be used as a serving station for guests.

This chandelier was actually made by one of our Legacy Farms couples. Julia and Justin Battles along with the help of family and friends spent two days attaching over 400 tea bags to the wire rings then stringing the tiered chandelier with pearls, moss, and vintage inspired flowers. With all of the love and time invested into this project, they decided to donate THIS chandelier to Legacy Farms for other brides to use!

We especially love the cupcake stands made out of vintage china! Fill the tea cups/bowls with candy coated almonds or flowers and line the plates with cupcakes, scones, or tea cakes. The only thing that could make these more gorgeous are some lovely treats from The Bake Shoppe! Too Cute to Eat

We recently had a request for a special birthday cake in the form of the lovable robot, Wall-E.  Now, if you haven’t seen this movie, then put it on your rental list ASAP.  It’s adorable and well done!  But that’s besides the point.  Needless to say, this cake turned out pretty darn cute.  It’s always tricky; you want to eat it because it’s The Bake Shoppe cake (and it’s ridiculously good) but then you don’t want to cut into it because it looks so nice!  That struggle doesn’t last very long because the cake aroma intoxicates you and must have a piece!

The Great Debate

Attend any bridal show or sit in on any cake consultation and you will hear a 5 minute (or longer) debate over the fondant vs buttercream for the wedding cake.  Here’s just a glance of a few questions from previous brides….

  • how does fondant taste?  I heard it tastes awful!
  • what if I want the look of fondant but without actually using fondant?
  • can you make the buttercream have the same smooth look as fondant?
  • I’m having an outside wedding in the middle of August, which will hold up better?  fondant or buttercream?
  • what’s in between the cake and the fondant?

These are just a few examples of what brides are asking when it comes to how they want their cake iced.

I think it’s safe to say that Main Event Productions and The Bake Shoppe has some experience under our cake-lovin’ belt and can offer some advice and guidance to hopefully direct you in your decision making.

  • how does fondant taste?  I heard it tastes awful!  Fondant has a very sweet and chewy taste.  Our chocolate fondant reminds me of a giant tootsie roll!  It does come down to personal preference.
  • what if I want the look of fondant but without actually using fondant?  We are really good at what we do and can make a buttercream cake as smooth as fondant.
  • can you make the buttercream have the same smooth look as fondant?  yes and yes!!!
  • I’m having an outside wedding in the middle of August, which will hold up better?  fondant or buttercream?  It has been our experience that fondant holds up better in the middle TN heat.  It’s proven to be more sturdy, reliable, and resilient to catching any bugs that mights be hungry for some delicious cake.
  • what’s in between the cake and the fondant?  When we cover a cake in fondant we place a nice layer of buttercream icing on the cake before the fondant in order to hold in the cake’s moisture and to taste yummy for those who’d rather peel off the fondant.

Here’s a few examples of our buttercream covered wedding cakes…

Top 5 Wedding Cake Flavors

We have deemed this week “Top 5 Week”.  To share our top 5 reasons to have a “Top 5 Week” would be simply confusing and slightly redundant.  With that being said, here’s what you can expect from the Main Event Productions blogging world:  we have heard the questions and concerns of brides and clients and have created a Top 5 list for each division of the company to help guide you in your decision making.  We understand that your wedding or special occasion day requires many decisions and we want to remove some of the stress that tags along with the pressure to decide.

Let’s kick off this week with the

and the Top 5 Flavors

Do you find yourself asking these questions???

  • How do I decide on wedding cake flavors?
  • Is it better to just have one option, so people don’t fight over a certain flavor? Or more options in case some hate chocolate or vanilla? Or, just pick your own favorite flavor?

Main Event Productions and The Bake Shoppe know and understand that when you’re sitting in front of our plate of delicious cake flavors that it’s hard to decide on which ones to go for!  At the end of the day, it’s your day and you can do whatever you like!  We recommend certain pairings (i.e. Sour Cream Almond and Strawberry) but you can’t go wrong because people will eat the cake and love it.

To help narrow it down, here’s our TOP 5 best selling cake flavors…

5. Red Velvet

4.Traditional White

3. Kahlua Fudge

2. Sour Cream Almond

1. Strawberry

The flavors of our cakes range from traditional white and chocolate to Mandarin Orange, Carrot, Italian Cream, Chocolate Cherry Almond, Lemon, Cheesecake, etc.

Cakes of February

February is a unique month!  Besides the fact that it’s a shorter month there is the lovely Valentine’s Day celebration and the battle of snow, cold, and if you’re in Nashville, TN, the random spring-like days thrown in the mix.  All of that to say, here’s just a few of pictures of our favorite February cakes.

I love this cake for a number of reasons.  I love the charm that glows from its simplicity and delicateness.  I also appreciate how it’s not a standard white wedding cake but still carries that sense of sophistication.

The Bake Shoppe; February Wedding Cake

This cake rings of old vintage and nothing else ties it all together like the cameo in the center.  Black and white themed weddings will remain a consistent theme and this cake brings a fresh look.

The Bake Shoppe; Black and White Elegant Wedding Cake

This cake was completely inspired and replicated from a wedding invitation, even down to the font of the monogram.  This cake-including the monogram-was hand-painted which added to it’s subtle movement and stunning essence.

The Bake Shoppe; Invitation Inspired Wedding Cake
